Zachary McCulloch Fund Raiser - Jewel Shop & Share

By shopping at Jewel Food Stores June 30, July 1 and July 2, your donations will go directly to the Zachary McCulloch Benefit Fund which has been set up to assist the family in paying Zach’s medical expenses.

Zach McCulloch Shop & Share Coupon

Direct donations can be made at National City Bank located on 135th Street in Plainfield.

Zach's Story

Zachary McCulloch, despite his third year in his battle with cancer, graduated from Plainfield North this past month! Zach was stricken with a rare form of cancer called Rhabdomyosarcoma. This cancer is diagnosed in approximately 350 children each year, the majority under 6 years of age. Teenagers and adults would represent about 40 of this total a year (rarest of the rare). Rhabdomyosarcoma is a highly malignant and relentless cancer.

Zachary is now going into his third year of treatment. You can read Zach’s story along with many others by going to http://www.carepages.com/.

The family recently reached Zach’s lifetime deductible. However, thanks to the efforts of some co-workers, they found another insurance company to help cover Zach’s continuing medical expenses.

Many thanks for sharing this with as many of your friends as possible! Any other fund raising ideas can be sent to Kathy Lopez at kathylopez@comcast.net.

HUGE TURNOUT FOR ZACH MCCULLOCH CULVER'S NIGHT

Based on the huge show of support for Zach McCulloch's Culver's night, it is safe to say the event was a great success.

It was so busy at times, the owner/manager threatened to close the registers because they couldn't fill all the orders. What a great turnout!

The McCulloch family greatly appreciates the generosity of Plainfield's citizens.

Thank You, Plainfield!

Please, check back for details on the Zach McCulloch Jewel Shop & Share!

Reinstate Plainfield North High School Principal Dr. Peter Pasteris

District 202 has, again, disregarded the wishes of students and parents. They lied to us about "family friendly' re-districting boundries. They split families and put siblings in different high schools. How is this "family friendly"?

And now, after a few private meetings, the school board voted to dismiss Dr. Peter Pasteris as principal of Plainfield North High School. This despicable board of education completed their witch hunt and fired Dr. Pasteris with no publicly disclosed reasons.

Here are a few of the accomplishments of this "mediocre" principal:

(1) PNHS has higher grade scores than the other three high schools

(2) PNHS has the highest enrollment

(3) PNHS has the highest state test scores

(4) PNHS has the most advanced placement classes

(5) PNHS students and parents respect and admire Dr. Pasteris

(6) Dr. Pasteris attends a multitude of school functions

(7) Dr. Pasteris has an open door policy with students, teachers and parents

(8) Dr. Pasteris continually shows his dedication to the school and its students

What more could you possibly want from a school administrator? Are we striving for excellence or mediocrity?

Enough is enough. District 202 is out of control and we need to voice our concerns.

Please Help Zachary McCulloch on April 16, 2008

There will be a Culver’s night on April 16, 2008 to benefit Zach McCulloch and his family. It is the Culver's in Plainfield, IL at Route 59 and 135th Street. Please try to come out, and tell all your friends and neighbors.

Plainfield resident and local athlete, Zachary McCulloch was stricken with a rare form of cancer called Rhabdomyosarcoma. The family remained very anonymous during the first two years and tried to use the resources they had rather than ask for help financially. Now as they start the third year, the burden of carrying this financial weight has become overwhelming. Although the prognosis for a relapse of this type of cancer is not favorable, there still is hope.

WHERE THERE IS TREATMENT THERE IS HOPE

Zachary just spent 36 straight days in the hospital and still has many more to come. Zachary has been up to the challenge and continues to beat the odds. Any help for this family in need and part of our Plainfield community would be greatly appreciated. If you wish to read more and follow Zachary’s journey please go to http://www.carepages.com/. After you reach this site, create a user login, password and enter your information. After logging in, enter in the search function SublimeLBC. After this point updates are automatically sent through to your registered e-mail address.

Here are a couple of ways you can help:

Kathy Lopez is planning meals for every Tuesday and Thursday for the months of April, June and July. If anyone is interested in participating just let her know as she has some open spots.

Please e-mail subject: “Meals for Zach” to: kathylopez@comcast.net

SPORTS BIO

Zachary’s sports career began in Bloomington, IL where he played both soccer and football.

After moving to Plainfield in 2001, Zachary gave up soccer to focus on football. He played football for the Plainfield Junior Cats Gold Varsity Heavyweights under the leadership of coaches Joe Hogan and Kevin Voda. He ultimately helped the team win the Superbowl Championship.

Upon his arrival at Plainfield Central High School, he joined the freshman football team. With school district changes, Zachary was forced to change high schools in his sophomore year and ended up at Plainfield North High School. Zachary’s hard work paid off and he landed the starting position of Offensive Guard under the coaching leadership of John Darlington.

In the middle of his sophomore season, the headaches and symptoms of his illness began to unfold. At first, his family and those around him thought he was displaying the typical “attitude” issues common to most teenagers. Zachary left the football team late in the season due to his loss of desire and his inability to focus. His lack of focus eventually ended up affecting his schoolwork and home life. His family searched for answers, but was not prepared for what was to become the fight of their lives.

Diagnosed with cancer, Zachary’s football career ended abruptly and he began a battle with the silent monster inside his body. He battles daily with doctors, hospitals, chemotherapy, tests, fatigue and frustration. Through it all, he continues to fight.

He still roots for his favorite teams; The Chicago Bears, The Indiana Pacers, The Detroit Tigers, The Detroit Red Wings and his favorite college teams from The University of Michigan.

Everyone who knows Zachary wishes him the very best and hopes that he will soon conquer the beast called cancer.

PJC In-house Cheerleading Rules/GuidelinesOur organization is a non-for-profit youth organization run completely by volunteers, so please consider volunteering some of your time to help us out. We can always use the help. We would like to welcome you to the 2008 season of PJC cheerleading. We hope everyone has a very enjoyable season. If at any time you have a question or concern, you can contact any board member. All of the board member information is listed on the “Contact Us” tab located on the Home Page of the website. The PJC Executive Board holds a board meeting the second Tuesday of every monthat the Plainfield Police Department. The open session of the meeting begins at 8 p.m. and we welcome everyone to attend. In PJC, our goal is to teach all participants the sport of cheerleading in a fun and safe atmosphere. This year there are some changes to how the girls will be placed on teams. All cheer/pom participants in 1st and 2nd grade, only need to register on the registration dates; those in 3rd thru 8th grade will be required to attend an evaluation. There will be 2 weeks of evaluation. One week for cheerleading and one week for Poms. Your child can choose which evaluation they would prefer to attend. If they are interested in both, they are welcome to attend both. There will be a brief mandatory parent meeting on the first night of each evaluation.During 2 days of evaluations, everyone will be taught a brief routine with some being asked to return on the 3rd night for a final evaluation, which will be conducted by judges. This process will be used to extend offers to join our travel teams. All teams should be set and you should be notified of your child’s team by the end of June. For In-House, we do our best to place the girls on teams with girls their own age, from the same school or a school nearby. This also depends on the number of registrants we have and the volunteer coaches. If we do not have a coach from your school come forward, or if we have too many girls for one squad from your school, the girls will be placed as close to their home as possible. All practice times and locations are set by the volunteer coaches. They have many girls to try and accommodate along with the helpers who assist with the teaching, so please be patient and flexible when waiting for a schedule. Game schedules are not distributed until mid August, with the first game of the season beginning at the end of August and the last game at the end of October. Practices are 2-3 days a week for approximately an hour to an hour and a half. Once the season starts, it is possible the teams will only practice one day a week depending on what they are learning. If the girls miss a practice and are not present to learn the halftime routine, they will not be able to perform. If there is ever an issue/concern with a helper or practice/game, please address this with the coach. All In-House games are played locally and one parent must be in attendance during each game. Games are played each weekend. If you do not have a weekend game, then you will have a Monday night game. On game day, the girls need to arrive 30 minutes prior to the start of the game and in full uniform. Hair should be in a ponytail with hair bows on, no jewelry/earrings and no nail polish. These are cheerleading no no’s.Uniforms consist of a top, warm-up, socks and skirt. These will be given out by your coach at the end of July. If there are any outstanding fees, these need to be taken care of or the uniform will be held until that time. All skirts are to be returned after the last game. If damaged, the replacement cost is $50.00. There are some additional items that will be needed for the cheer season and your coach will be discussing these with you at the first meeting. These consist of cheer shoes, briefs and hair bows. Team pictures are taken at the beginning of the season with action photos being taken during the season. We do not have a make-up picture day. If there is a concern with your pictures, you should contact Mary Anderson. We hope that everyone has a wonderful season and the girls continue cheering not only for PJC, but into Junior High and High School, as well. We love to see ‘our girls’ at the High School football games cheering on the community!

The wearing of jewelry (e.g., earrings, rings, necklaces, watches…), hard casts and any items deemed harmful by the referees are strictly prohibited during games. Tentative Schedule: The spring season is scheduled to start April 12th. The season is scheduled to end June 7th. U12 and U14 girls may be combined for teams depending on number of players registered. Every effort is made to hold games on Saturdays, but PSA reserves the right to move games to another day to accommodate conflicts. The Plainfield area is large geographically. We do our best to place players north or south but coaches typically hold practice where/when it is convenient for them. As volunteers, that is their right. The only way to have control over where and when your child practices is to volunteer and be chosen by PSA to be the head coach of a team.

OUR COACH WILL CONTACT YOU by phone or email before the season starts. Please check the website for updates and season-specific information.

Refund Policy: $20.00 is non-refundable at the time of registration. Mail-in and late fees are non-refundable and are in addition to the $20.00. No refunds will be given after the first game of the season.
